Crazy Chickens Table Runner

The kitchen in the house I grew up in had a white square tile back splash. When we moved in two of the tiles had decals, one rooster and one hen. Sometime in my teens my mom and I began to look for coordinating kitchen items for those chickens. We thought a cute cookie jar or some canisters, maybe kitchen towels would look nice. We couldn’t find anything anywhere with chickens for the kitchen. There were lots of ducks, some cows the occasional pig but no chickens. We looked for a couple of years and never found anything, this was in the 1980’s.
Sometime in the 2000’s we each began to see chicken themed items. We would get excited and call or text to tell the other, “Look what I found!” It was always a fun exchange of excitement and giggles. After a while there were chickens everywhere, we would laugh as we exchanged stories and pictures of random chicken items at the store.
When I came across some chicken fabric, I made her a set of pot holders. Later that year she made me a pot holder that was shaped like a chicken.

I just smile every time I look at these chickens.

One day as I was scrolling through Instagram I saw a post with a pattern by Simple Life Pattern Company, called Crazy Chicken Table Runner. I knew immediately I had to make this for both my mom & myself! Of course, I chose to use Bonnie and Camille Fabric and went with a scrappy look. I gifted mom’s a couple of years ago for her birthday. I finished mine recently with a fun chicken wire quilting pattern.
